According to data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), about 263 million children, adolescents, and youth worldwide – one in every five – are out of school, which has barely changed over the past five years. With more than 150 Million Children out of school globally (Confirm statistics and Source), Uganda contributes ______millions, the majority of these are Girls especially those living in rural areas. The World Bank estimates that ____ do millions of children will miss their education if nothing is done.

Priority focus in line with SDGs Goal 5

  • Ensure that all girls and boys complete accessible, equitable, and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes

  • Ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education

  • Eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and children in vulnerable situations

  • Elimination of Violence against Children in Schools

Strategies

  • Community mobilization, education, and advocacy

  • Monitor progress on the realization of the above targets in SDGs and National Development Plan III for advocacy at the district and national level

  • Training of key school stakeholders such as parents, PTAs, School Management Committees (SMCs), and students to improve enrolment, retention, and completion with good learning outcomes

  • Commemoration of International days such as the Day of the Africa Child, International Day of the Girl, and International Day against Child Labour among others.
